The National Basketball League has released the draw for the 2015/2016 last Thursday, with Wednesday night Basketball to return after a Five year hiatus.
The move will see the NBL play games between Wednesday to Sunday every week during the regular season, which i believe is a great for the struggling competition.
The idea i think is great because it gives sports fans a chance to watch basketball during the week, either by attending the game or watching on TV/Online, but the only worry is about the crowd figures for those games.
For me i believe the NBL should get more people to the games because it is during a mid-week and shouldn’t conflict with A-Leauge matches, but they need to sell it and the only way to sell it is advertisements.
Honestly i can’t remember the last time the NBL has made a television ad nation wide and without that, people wound’t know that matches are being played, so they won’t turn up unless they are passionate supporters that know when their team plays.
I also believe that the NBL needs to reunite with Fox Sports again and give them full access to every game of the season, currently two games are shown on Ten/One, but again unless your a passionate fan you won’t know it’s on because of the failure to promote it and the fact that the Friday night game is delayed because they want to show repeats of MASH.
So is think the NBL have made a great decision for games on Wednesday night, but they have still got a lot of work to do if they want to get the fans back to game.
